Hand Grip Installation Guide

Applicable to all ProGrip and Ariete (Harri's Project) Racing Streetbike Grips.  Always, use your best judgment when performing any installation.  This guide is provided for informational purposes only.

1.  Bike preparation before beginning installation

  • Secure your bike in a stable position to prevent movement or tip-over during installation.  This can be done by using a rear swingarm stand, work stand, or by strapping the bike to stationary hooks.

2. Removal of existing grips

  • Begin by removing the bar-end weights with the proper tools.

  • Next, remove the stock grips which are glued on. If you want to try to preserve them you can use a thin flat blade screwdriver and pry them from the bars using blasts of compressed air to assist. Otherwise apply lengthwise cuts with a razor blade to slice them off.

3. Preparation  for new grips

  • Thoroughly clean the left handlebar and smooth (sand) any rough areas on the bar.

  • Prepare the throttle tube by cutting or grinding the circular lips that hold the factory grip (if applicable)

  • For Ariete (Harri's Project) grips, partially sand lateral ridges (if applicable - notably visible with Ducati's) to smooth throttle tube surface.

4. Installation of new grips

  • Apply grip glue or black silicon adhesive (available at any hardware store) to the top inside edge of the grips for a secure installation.

  • Position alignment arrows on the grip flange to the up position and place grip over the lip of the tube/bar.

  • Using  the palm of one hand "pop" the grip on by striking the grip end with your palm.  It may be helpful to use the other hand to "pull" the grip up the bar at the same time.

5. Final positioning of new grips

  • Be sure to re-mount your bar ends soon after the grips are installed so that you can position the grip properly to avoid throttle hanging or an unsightly gap between the end and grip.  After the adhesive has dried, you'll are ready to ride!
